5 Amazing restaurants and geek bars

1. Miracle of Science (Cambridge, Massachusetts)

Miracle of ScienceOpened in 1991, Miracle of Science stands strong as the leader in geek-chic. Its menu is hand written onto the wall and it was one of the first restaurants to employ the open floor concept. This place is always packed with artists, musicians, geo physicists and computer gurus who know they don't have to go anywhere else looking for a good time.

2. Hajime Restaurant (Thailand)

Hajime Restaurant in BangkokThe Hajime Restaurant in Bangkok is Thailand's first Japanese robot restaurant, where all the serving waiters are robots.

Customers order their food on a touchscreen display and their robotic waiter will whizz into action. The friendly robots will also dance to entertain as they work and go out to collect empty dishes at the customers' table. The owner of the Hajime Japanese restaurant, Lapassarad Thanaphant, said she spent 30 million baht ($927,600) on the restaurant including the purchase of four robots from Japan.

3. Barcade Bar (Brooklyn, NY)

Barcade bar in brooklynIn 2004, five friends came together and opened their own bar in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. Each had been working in either film/TV or graphic design in New York and four of them had attended Syracuse University together. They were enthusiastic about American craft beer and had grown up in the 1980's playing classic arcade games. Looking to start their own business, they decided to take a chance and combine the two passions. Barcade bar with a dual focus; an endless rotation of American craft beer and an equally eclectic lineup of classic arcade games.

4. World of Warcraft Restaurant (China)

World of Warcraft restaurant in BeijingA World of Warcraft themed restaurant in central Beijing, serving WoW inspired food under Azeroth-themed murals. The food remains a mystery - if any readers want to translate the menu please do - but there do seem to be PCs there so we suspect a slight LAN party ambience. Maybe not the ideal venue for that anniversary dinner you promised your significant other.

5. Mundo Tapas Bar (Sydney)

Mundo Tapas in North SydneyMundo Tapas in North Sydney provides an iPad as the menu for customers to browse and order from. Diners can now see a picture of what each dish looks like and view tasting notes before making that all important decision of what to order. Ark hotel designed by Russian | World’s new most unique hotel

The Ark hotel project was designed by Russian firm Remi-studio with the assistance of the International Union of Architects’ program Architecture for Disasters Relief. The dome-shaped hotel is constructed with wooden arches, steel cables and a “self-cleaning” plastic layer instead of glass. The slinky-like Ark hotel can be adapted to suit both land and water. It is built to stay afloat in the event of floods or rising seas. The 14,000 square meter shell-like construction of arches and cables distributes the weight evenly, meaning it can withstand earthquakes. Daylight is filtered through to internal rooms due to the hotel’s see-through structure, reducing the need for lighting. 09 More images after the break...

Ark hotel
Designed as: “an integrated energy system with an uninterpretable power supply using alternative energy sources”, the hotel uses solar panels and a rainwater collection system to provide inhabitants with power and water. It would be built around a central pillar connecting to roof-top wind generators and heat pumps, as well as to energy storage and thermal conversion units below. There will also be a “tornado” energy generating spiral at the top of the pillar.

Mobile hotels | Rotel tours | Rotel bus hotel

The Rotel, a combination between a bus and a hotel, has been conducting worldwide tours for the last 50 years.
Yes, the Rotel is kind of like an RV, only it will take you to the end of the world, if the price is right. Rotel Tours was founded by a German entrepreneur (ironically named George Hotel), in 1959, and has since then conducted tours all around the world. From the mountains of Tibet to the scorching Sahara Desert, or the famous Taj Mahal, there’s literally no place the Rotel can’t take German tourists.
Featuring three-foot-wide and three-foot-high bunks, accessible through a zippered curtain, Rotel isn’t exactly the most comfortable hotel in the world, but it’s the only one that will take you around the world. The only serious problem is, while the Rotel features a bathroom, there are no showers. But the tour operator says its mobile hotels do make occasional stops, specifically for bathing purposes.

Hilton Hotel In Ordos | Logic And Philosophies Famous Hotels

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

The forthcoming Hilton Hotel in Ordos wants not only to inculcate all the logic and philosophies behind famous hotels but also wants to take into account the specific geographical context. With this task at had, VMX Architects have developed a pattern imbibing the spirit of Inner Mongolia which, when built will blow everyone’s mind away!

The concept primarily focuses on two things. First, the surrounding landscape in and around the city of Ordos. Then, it wants adjacent country club functions like a spectacular golf course right next to this beauty of a hotel.

So far, the plan includes only three stories but that shouldn’t be a worry with a massive rectangular main structure that moves in a circle just the sacred Sun in the Mongolian culture. One can expect the beauty of lounging or walking along long corridors. Plus the round shape takes maximum advantage of the view in every direction. It also minimizes the distance between rooms and hotels functions like the lobby, dining room, bars, concert stage and the swimming pool. Also requiring special mention is the partial glass roof that protects the hotel from the harsh climate.

We're not just talking variations in wallpaper--the "Stable" suite has a hay chute opening into it. Guests don't rough it, however. The inn is a Relais and Chateaux property, and it includes a spa and dining room that uses fresh local and regional ingredients.

"Quarry" Hotel in China

This stunning design sets a hotel constructed in a water-filled quarry in China:

Atkin’s Architecture Group recently won the first prize award for an international design competition with this stunning entry. Set in a spectacular water filled quarry in Songjiang, China, the 400 bed resort hotel is uniquely constructed within the natural elements of the quarry. Underwater public areas and guest rooms add to the uniqueness, but the resort also boasts cafes, restaurants and sporting facilities.

The lowest level runs with the aquatic theme by housing a luxurious swimming pool and an extreme sports center for activities such as rock climbing and bungee jumping which will be cantilevered over the quarry and accessed by special lifts from the water. With a stunning visual presentation as shown here, it’s no wonder this project took home the first prize. This is a fine example of an ultra modern facility co-existing amongst its natural environment.
